Our Aims

  • To assist the people of the Same (pronounced Sah-may) region through fund-raising and project development, particularly for health, education and training, and community development.
  • To support projects aimed at increasing economic independence and sustainability in the Same region.
  • To build better knowledge and understanding of the needs of the Same region and East Timor by the Friends of Samé, the City of Boroondara and the community.

About Same
The sub-district of Same, part of the District of Manufahi, is situated in the south of East Timor, on the southern side of the central mountain range, towards the border with West Timor. It extends from Kablaki Mountain and its foothills, where the town of Same is located, sloping down to Betano on the southern coastal plains bordering the Timor Sea..

Become a Volunteer
Perhaps you don’t have any spare cash, but you do have a little spare time?

You don’t need to be a member of Friends of Same to offer your time and assistance.

Friends of Same volunteers can use their experience to update their CV and, while working with Friends of Same, are protected by Voluntary Worker Insurance.

Ongoing opportunities exist in newsletter production, administrative support, attendig market stalls, coffee marketing and retail customer support and fundraising.

Help us in other ways
You can help in many ways, from donating, purchasing coffee or assisting with our Education and Training voucher program.

We have partner programs with groups such as Australian Volunteers International, Salesian Mission, and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons.

We gratefully acknowledge assistance from the City of Boroondara, who provide a grant  for administrative assistance and support for programs.

If you are interested in establishing a partner relationship with us we'd love to hear from you.
